Getting Started

Beginnings are difficult.  That's what I keep telling myself as I struggle to start this first post.  Inertia can make starting something new feel impossibly awkward, cumbersome or challenging, and this task is no different.  There's no logical reason I should find this hard - I am personally invested in the project, and I love the work of writing and thinking about education, and I even enjoy introducing myself to others - but nonetheless, I do.  I've begun blogs a few times; sometimes I had to for work or for a specific project, and other times I tried to write for more personal ends and audiences, but I've never stuck with it very long.

I'm resolving to do better this time, and I'm hoping that the secret to success will be that the project has both professional and personal purposes.  As a member of the 21st Century Cohort in my school district, I'm in the second of three years of professional development aimed at educating teachers about how to meaningfully integrate technology tools in the classroom so students can optimize their learning.  The program has been challenging, intriguing and exciting so far, and it has provided great opportunities for me to reflect on my practice at a very appropriate time in my career.  In fact, it's created so many opportunities that I feel finally like a blog could be useful enough to me that I'll maintain it for longer than a few weeks.  I need a place to share some thoughts, to work through some things I'm figuring out, to shout out for help or validation or sympathy, and this will be that space.  I hope.
